Music plugin update
4:24 PM on Jul. 2, 2008
Good news everyone, we've made an update to the Music plugin! But before we make it available for you guys to download, check it out on our demo site http://demo.socialengine.net/. You will notice that we replaced the Java-based file uploader with the community suggested "FancyUpload" Ajax-ish file upload script.

Once we're certain the new uploader works as designed, we will release it for you to download and install on your site.

So go check it out: http://demo.socialengine.net/ and let us know what you think!

Thanks,
Brett

Is it possible to allow the admin to set permissions for music site wide? In other words, I would be interested in the music plugin, but some of my users may be turned off by music starting automatically. I know they would have the ability to control this IF they were signed in, but often people may browse for information who are not signed in.

I would rather have music than not have it, but I want to the music setting to be off to everybody, signed in or not. It will then be up to the browsing user to click on the music player on any given profile. This works better for me and my site. Otherwise, I've decided not to use music on the profiles. Every site, of course, is different.

One more problem Brett with Safari, the text does not wrap correctly with too long of a song name, thanks, everything else before is working now

@ruptan1, I'm ironing out a few details right now, but everything looks good for a release today. Should be out the door and available for download before 5pm Pacific Time today. I will probably post an official announcement when it's available as well.

Thank you all for the valuable feedback, I've corrected the Safari bug and added some language to the upload page explaining how to use the uploader better. It's not up on the demo just yet.

After uploading three files, the bottom of the border around the uploaded files and part of "Remove" is missing. Explorer 7 on XP
tkdennis - 8:44 AM on Jul. 3, 2008  [ message ]
Actually, I get a 404 every time I try to upload anyway. Not a browser 404 but a little red triangle on the uploader.
tkdennis - 8:36 AM on Jul. 3, 2008  [ message ]
Ok, this is great. BUT When it comes to photos, we need to be able to drag folders to the upload area. Uploading one photo at a time is not cool. So drag and drop is going to need to be implemented to the photo album. Just making sure we dont use this for both.

Hi, I just tried the demo: easy, clean, great! I've used Firefox 2.0.0.14 on MacOs 10.4.11
blackgold - 6:36 AM on Jul. 3, 2008  [ message ]
@ruptan1. no i just uploaded it straight out of the folder and from what i see Brett only have mp3 and mp4 listed so it should work
ruptan1 - 6:22 AM on Jul. 3, 2008  [ message ]
@gold. Thank you. Was there any extension you used? I am not sure why mine is not working...but I will take a look again.
blackgold - 4:04 AM on Jul. 3, 2008  [ message ]
@ruptan1 i have tried adn successfully uploaded music from my iTunes music folder and they play back great, they even keep the file names as a mattter of fact the file i uploaded in the demo site is from my iTunes music folder.

much much better Brett. Love the new uploader. It works perfectly on IE7 with xp. Will try at home with vista. And also firefox. Thankyou for listening to our critique and revamping the uploader. It really is much better and easy to use. Even the most novice person wont have trouble with it. Great work and thank you again.

Trying to upload 3 mp3s i got 2 error messages.
see: http://img73.imageshack.us/img73/4954/61014566ba3.jpg
the errored files are partly there, but incomplete.
mehedi - 1:39 AM on Jul. 3, 2008  [ message ]
uploader looks great but player skins can do with a makeover
derdude - 1:22 AM on Jul. 3, 2008  [ message ]
okok im a dumbass ;)
Pressing Upload Songs is very helpful ;)
derdude - 12:55 AM on Jul. 3, 2008  [ message ]
Looks great and works perfect until i selected files.
After that i see no progress any more in Firefox v3. Neither Overall Progress nor File Progress shows any change over time.
Got no network traffic viewer here at the moment, but i guess nothing is happening at all.

Is it possible to add some kind of upload speed in kb/s?
au8ust - 9:52 PM on Jul. 2, 2008  [ message ]
@thirdgruv,
Agreed, I didn't even notice that what I have to do when the progress bar is reach 100% :P
thirdgruv - 9:01 PM on Jul. 2, 2008  [ message ]
@au8ust, That's good to know. It wasn't clear at any point during the upload, however. It would be good to have an instructional hint to make that known. Thanks.
ladyPHP - 7:43 PM on Jul. 2, 2008  [ message ]
wow... very impressed with the ajax uploader @ the demo site.... Very clean and modern looking. The java applet wouldnt work with alot of SE users, who would experience error messages, so this is a breath of fresh air!
au8ust - 7:37 PM on Jul. 2, 2008  [ message ]
@thirdgruv,
Try ctrl+click or drag on multiple items.
thirdgruv - 6:54 PM on Jul. 2, 2008  [ message ]
FF 3.0, IE8b1, and Opera 9.26 all good. Safari 3.1.2 gives error message at completion of upload. It looked and felt good, but is it only one file at a time? Java seems more robust. Is this a short term fix until you figure out the java uploader or is this permanent?
ruptan1 - 6:52 PM on Jul. 2, 2008  [ message ]
Brett!! Great work buddy. Its working like a charm. I am using IE7.0. However Can I be able to upload any iTunes music? Seems like it does not work for those. Thanks a lot.
ram - 6:27 PM on Jul. 2, 2008  [ message ]
Also, when you play a song in Safari it buffers every time you go to the profile page, whereas in Firefox it buffers only once. I think it caches the file.
Brett - 6:13 PM on Jul. 2, 2008  [ message ]
Thanks for reporting back about Safari, I will look into it
iamintoit - 5:32 PM on Jul. 2, 2008  [ message ]
Hey Brett lets get every unloader to work the same as this one, way better, glad that it is mostly working too, nice job
iamintoit - 5:25 PM on Jul. 2, 2008  [ message ]
also you cannot see the graphics for the quene, just shows up as words
ram - 5:25 PM on Jul. 2, 2008  [ message ]
@ Brett, It's nice but it is not working in Safari 3.1.1 It gives this error httpStatus 404 when it shows uploading 100%. Although in firefox it's working fine.
iamintoit - 5:23 PM on Jul. 2, 2008  [ message ]
Safari user, cannot see the status bar, everything else works
au8ust - 5:19 PM on Jul. 2, 2008  [ message ]
Wow! It looks really really great! I love this one Brett!
alexsamuel - 4:50 PM on Jul. 2, 2008  [ message ]
